Fire-detection Equipment Equally Important as Fire Extinguishers

Major fire breaks out in Mumbai...10 people lose life as
fire breaks out in a mall...Massive fire engulfs two-storey building...
Many such headlines have rocked the newspapers in the past
years. In several of these incidents, the fire personnel have failed to
understand the reason for the outbreak of the fire, further posing one big
question — How can we prevent fire accidents and save human lives and valuable
assets?
To address this issue, Vighnaharta Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
has introduced TrueSafe Ignis Smoke Detector, a photoelectric smoke detector
that uses the state-of-the-art technology of optical sensing chamber.
Explaining it’s functioning, product manager Amol Molawade said, “Ignis smoke detector is installed either on the ceilings or the false ceilings of various properties. As soon as the detector identifies smoke, it alerts the panel, which helps to take action to restrict further spread of the fire and douse it. This in turn, helps in preventing huge damage to the infrastructure and also minimizes financial loss.” Molawade also informed that the smoke detector is best suitable to protect large spaces such as residential and commercial properties.
Adding to him, company’s Director Marketing, Sadanand
Tungare said, “TrueSafe Ignis Smoke Detector is our indigenously developed
product, manufactured under the Make in India initiative. Its ability to detect
smoke and heat together, along with it being available as a battery-operated
standalone product with Wifi and other wireless options, makes it an extremely
reliable smoke detector.” He further added that the special algorithm of the
product helps the detector to identify the smoke and raises alert and avoids
false alarms. “One can also integrate the wireless models with home automation
systems, considering the new smart homes. The product is made available on an
OEM basis as well,” he added.
The product that comes in two variations — conventional smoke
detector and conventional smoke detector with junction box base — indicates a
fire alarm in the presence of smoke whose opacity in the air is of the order of
0.16db/m to 0.22dB/m. This is well within the range prescribed by International
Standard and Indian Standard IS/ISO7240-7. It also has CE marking. Its advanced
design ensures optimal response and stable long-term operation, thanks to its
self-check functions, automatic sensitivity compensation and status warning.
Meanwhile, a recent survey of National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA) stated that 5.8 deaths were reported per 1000 fire accidents
at properties with operational smoke detectors against the 13 deaths reported
per 1000 fire accidents that occurred owing to the absence of smoke detectors or
non-functional fire alarms.
Stating that fire safety should be paramount at every stage
and type of infrastructure, CEO Dr. Samir Buwa said, “Preventing the spread of
fire is possible only when it is detected at an early stage and this is exactly
what our product does — helps minimise the damage to human life and valuable
assets by preventing the aggressive spread of fire.”
While enough awareness about installing fire extinguishers has been spread, it is now time to get smarter and invest in fire detection and suppression equipment as well.
